DigiPen Coursework (UXG3825): Hard-Surface Modeling Project
Project Details
Client: DigiPen Institute of Technology
Sector: 3D Modeling
Tools Used: Maya, Substance Painter
Project Time: 13 weeks
Model Details
Tasked with a high-poly modeling assignment at DigiPen Singapore, I developed a screen-accurate rendition of the Hyperion Industrial Laser Cannon from Borderlands. This project served as a deep dive into the UXG3825 curriculum, emphasizing intricate geometry and the industrial aesthetic of the original game's asset design.
Modelling Process
To develop this Hyperion Industrial Laser Cannon, I followed a structured process:
Block-out & Modelling: I created a base mesh to define the primary proportions, later refining the hard-surface details like the triple-pronged barrel and the upper cooling vents.
Texturing & Materials: I applied a high-contrast industrial yellow and black colour scheme, adding weathered textures and specific decals like the "H20" warning panel to enhance realism.
Lighting & Presentation: The final stage involved setting up a neutral gradient backdrop and three-point lighting to highlight the mechanical form and material finishes.
UV unwrapping each section
Polishing the final details and rendering the final model with the textures
Disclaimer: This model is strictly a mimic of the original work. This is not an actual game asset created for Borderlands.
